Thoughts of the Return to Cali '08

Toejammers,
So I'm sittin' here this AM before work - sippin' my coffee, scopin' the usual variety of internet bike porn, mountain bike carnage, product reviews, events and etc., when I see this...

YUMMY. When El Crasho flies East in May '07 for his 'Return to Boy Scout Camp' we need to discuss the plan our Westward Journey for 2008. Of course, there will be the usual plethora of trails around Tahoe that we'll need to burn up (including a nite ride of Toads). AND I'm thinkin'... boy wouldn't it be SWEET to go out to D'ville and race the Classic D-Hill event while we're out there?!?!

It is the perfect time of year - July in Cali - we can do the D-ville D-Hill as a Coup'de Grace of our trip - and really have a BLAST smokin' shuttle monkeys with our 4-5" XC rigs. I'm plannin' to be on either a Fuel EX or a Remedy by then so...

IN OTHER DOUBLE B NEWS...
Did a NASTY nite ride with the Wednesday Warriors at the Pond last nite. Trails were slimey, icey, mud - you remember that stuff dontcha' Crash?!? I was cussing the first 10 minutes of the ride because for one thing - I had forgotten my clothes - so had to haul tail home to get them and was 10 minutes late, so then had to hustle and catch the group on a cut-off route over to Gap (the whole time thinkin' "this SUCKS, I wanna just quit and go HOME - WAhhhh!").
Ended up climbing Gap and the trails were good on that side of course. We had fun, and enjoyed a brew once back at the car. Glad I didn't WUSS out, I knew I'd feel better once I got up with the boys.

Also was torqued because as I strapped on my rig I learned my TurboCat head lamp battery was DOA after having been fully charged just a week before - guess it is finally done - NOT BAD though - I think it is like 5-1/2 years old, bought it for 24 HRS of Snowshoe & Cali Crashfest in summer of '01.

THEN, while on the trail my XTR rear der wasn't holding a gear - it has been growing steadily worse - it is fried - ALSO about 5.5 years old and HEAVILY USED. YUMMY - now I get to spring for the new XTR rear der!
OUTATCHA' and BACK,

2007 could be EPIC for SWVA MTB racing

With the arrival of the new year comes the announcement of a new mountain bike race at Mountain Lake for April 1st. The 'Dirty Dawg' will be the opening race for 'Series 5' sponsored by the East Coasters & Roanoke City Parks Dept. Stay tuned for more on this. I've already made a handful of trips up the mountain to scout potential race courses - things are looking good and the folks who run things up there seem excited to have us.

There is also strong potential for the 'Rowdy Dawg' to take place as a part of the 'Derailer Series' in the Fall. We are in talks to make this happen - more soon...

These two series can be easily supported by racers in Virginia because they occur with no overlap. 'Series 5' is a Spring/Summer series and 'Derailer' is a late Summer/Fall series. What a BOON for mountain bike racing in SW Virginia!! Should be a FINE year!
